|Hi all,
|
| I saw the end of a TV show about photographers
|on TLC (The Learning Channel) last night. One
|section was about a photographer of lighning (2D).
|
| It made me wonder if anyone had ever seen or
|taken hyperstereo lightning photos. Seems like
|something that would be very impressive to see.
|
| (They also had a section about IMAX on the
|show and showed the IMAX 3D camera. And I though
|Sam's Stereo Pro was a large camera. :) :)
|
|Thanks - Greg E.

I saw that as well. There was pretty nice coverage of the IMAX
3d camera. A couple of surprising things was that although they
said that the LCS glasses run at a frame rate of 42 (48? - I forget)
cps, on the show itself, they were alternating back and forth (sitting
on the table) at maybe 2 - 5 cps - I wonder if that was a "test mode" or
some artifact of the tv camera frame rate vs the IMAX LCS shutter
rate. The second thing that was surprising to me is that the camera
can only hold enough film for a 3 minute shot before reloading is
necessary - kinda reminds me of the days of 8mm movie cameras where
you kept shots REAL short because of the limited magazine size.

It was a BIG change for me when video came in and you had HOURS of
screen time available. The habit of taking a maximum of 30 seconds
in one shot was very difficult for me to break :-)

On the lightning segment they pointed out that standing in the middle
of a thunderstorm with a lot of lightning, next to a metal tripod in the
middle of an open field might not be the safest thing to do :-)
