Of course you could always ask Sam. The Stereo Nishika on my page has a
stereo base of 36mm as listed on my tech page. The purpose of this project
was not to give you "realistic" stereo photos with the proper ortho base,
but an attempt to make a really cheap and easy full frame (24x36mm) stereo
camera. As most of you already know the most common format for 3d has been
5P, or 23x24mm approximately. Some of us like the standard 35mm size for
convenience, ease of processing and mounting, and the use of twin standard
carousel projectors for projecting.
The problem with the Nishika is not the ease of conversion, but the poor
quality of the optics. Due to its somewhat unusual focal length and optic
configuration, there are not many options for substituting lenses from other
cameras or from optical supply houses. The alternative is the Nimslo camera,
which has excellent optics and is just as easy to modify if required.
In conclusion, the reduced stereo base plus poor optical quality of the
Nishika would certainly give you stereo pairs, but it may not be of the
quality you would be happy with. Reduced base and loss of sharpness gives
you poor depth percetion in the average stereo view.
