Actually, most of the books I've seen on Rollei historicals (such as
Evans) spell Heidoscop and Rolleidoscop without the final "e" which I
guess is an anglicized version...
All of these cameras were made prewar and have uncoated Zeiss Tessar
lenses. Rollei made 45x107 and 60x130 Heidoscops (plate/sheet film) and
127 and 120 (actually B11/117) Rolleidoscops (roll film). The Heidoscops
are much less valuable because without the rare roll film adapter they
cannot be easily used. The original model (1926ish) featured a rising
front standard for perspective control (forgive them, John B, they knew
not what they did)!
I've seen good Rolleidoscops sell for $2000-$3000 recently. Dispite the
somewhat dim viewing (seperate reflex viewing lens between the taking
lenses), they are still prized by users as just about the best MF camera
available without going custom...
Speaking of which, anyone out there have any information on the Gilde MF
stereo cameras? Jon Golden gave me a picture of one, and it is one
*awesome* (read *expensive*) looking camera...
