>From what I've read and what I've seen regarding projection, light is
projected onto the mirror chip. Each mirror reflects the light either
through the lens (pixel on) or away from the lens (pixel off). The
original prototype had a single chip (~50K mirrors) and a color wheel.
All was synchronized to project the proper pixel colors at the proper time.
The other prototype (mockup maybe?) was a three chip unit, one chip for
each color, thus removing the need for a color wheel. I have heard that
they have had some alignment problems with this configuration, however, I
can't verify this rumor.
The theory behind commercial film projector replacement is that the DMM
projector would be linked to the studio via fiber optics. The movie would
be downloaded to the theater & projected for the audience. No need for
film or delivery. Probably would save a few bucks here & there.
I wish I could supply more info or make some brochures available, however,
with the chages that have been going on lately, I don't know what's
available anymore. For the uninformed, our division (TI-Defense) was sold
to Raytheon and we (as in my support group) are in the process of
segregating ourselves from TI. That means consolidating people &
equipment. And, one of the areas we're moving people into was previously
the DMM display area, with a wide variety of DMM projectors & rear screen
TVs. It even had one of the new DVD players which looked absolutely
wonderful!

Ron
