Projector Globes

 I know this has little to do with Stereo Photography but you guys are
 such experts and I dont know who else to ask so please bear with me.

 I have an old 60's  projector and its globe is losing all its silver
 coating. As I have no chance whatsoever in SA to replace this globe, can
 someone please tell me how I can safely re-silver all the bare patches
 and what material to use. If I cover it with silver paper from a
 cigaret box will it damage the globe.
