I think I missed the point.  I inferred that Norm was using "peripheral" 
to mean using his fovea off to the side.  You are taking the literal 
meaning of the word peripheral and making a good case for reduced vision 
in the peripheral area if the eyes are not straight ahead and not parallel.  
Fascinating!
