Thanks to Mike Kersenbrock for posting Herbert McKay's article from the
March 1953 issue of U.S. Camera pertaining to frozen images.
At a Church Festival I took a stereo photo of a ball toss using a flash
because of the poor lighting. The short duration of the flash froze the
ball in mid-air about half way between the tosser and the target. It
looked like it was suspended by some invisible string altho it was the
flash that froze the entire picture including the moving ball.
Frankly, I liked this frozen image just as I like others such as the
great images by Franklin Flocks of colorful balloons being burst by
colorful darts---not that my slide was in the same class as his :-).
My slide did not score well in the one competition where I entered it. I
do not know if the "unnatural" appearance of the ball frozen in mid-air
adversely influenced the judging or whether it was even a factor.
