So what do you consider to be the value to the rights for one image? Are
they asking for all rights? or just the right to publish it in their library?

I might consider $500.00 for an image created out of a desire for fun and
creative expression to be a nice bonus. If I retained the rights to it's use
for my own purposes, that doesn't sound too unreasonable. The exposure and
publicity is worth something too. It sounds like an exchange to me. The
question of how to measure the relative values is a very pertinent one
though. So maybe you don't submit your best best image?
