Gary Groose inquired about lightboxes and these are my observations:
Lightboxes are fairly
expensive but required for quality mounting work. It is simple to
construct a box however keep these recommendations in mind. Any type of
light will work to simply cut and sort images.
Low temp. lighting will fatigue your eyes much faster and won't offer
bright enough light for precision mounting. If you would like to
critique
the images before mounting, 5000K ( daylight)
temp. will give you the accuracy you seek to evaluate the images. A
lower temp. flourescent
light will also "flicker" and cause fatigue eventually. I have a
professional light box ($90)
and I appreciate the accuracy it delivers....the straight mounting edge
at the bottom, the tilt
capability, it runs extremely cool, and images previewed through a loop
will look the same in
my Dr. T'd halogen Red Button viewer. For the materials, effort and time
involved, I'd recommend an Apollo Mini light box from Office
Depot ( or is it Office Max?) for around $60.00
Better than building your own.......of course this is just my opinion:-)
