Realist vertical registration

The back plane on the Realist moves in and out to focus. The
supports of the back plane must necessarily be non-rigid to support
that movement. But in addition to the forward and backward
movement, it is likely that there is also some rotational freedom as
well. If the back plane is loose rotationally, the two masks may
not be aligned with one another precisely, and the resulting photo
pair will be out of registration vertically, and depending on how
you jostle your camera between shots, somewhat randomly. I notice
some rotational "play" in my Realists, too, but I don't know how to
fix them. It's seemed to me that the looseness may be caused by
normal wear on the sliding surfaces.

I believe the vertical registration problems of careless mounting
are much greater than those caused by any wear-related rotation of
the film carriage, so I'd not let Kodalux mounting cause me to
suspect my camera was badly worn. Look at the chips themselves.
