Are those prices in Australian dollars? Here in the U.S. the average rate
is about $1.00/image if you have the scans done after the original processing.
You can find $.75/image if you shop around.

You can buy a Photo-CD mailer (PKT-36) from B&H Photo for 27.95 which
includes processing of a 36-exp. roll of slide film and scanning to
Photo-CD. At $.66/image for scanning (computed by subtracting the cost
of a PK-36 processing-only mailer ($4.29) from the cost of the PKT-36
mailer), this is obviously the cheapest way to go.

Of course that doesn't help you with Realist format, that's for full-frame
(RBT, twin rig, weight-shift, etc.).

Photo-CD discs are written in "multi-session" format, so you DON'T have
to have the maximum number of images written (which varies but is in
the 80-100 range) at one go. If you are having images appended to an
existing disc you pay only the per-image charge, usually.
