Can you be more specific? How much is very small?

RBTs allow precise adjustment of vertical registration in 0.1mm
increments and (using the pin bars) allow adjustment for up to
0.4mm offset. Unfortunately, when using the RBT to Spicer jig
method, this adjustment range is cut in half. So far, I've had
some shots where the required adjustment was to lower the right
chip by 0.1mm and others where the adjustment required was to
raise the right chip by 0.2mm. That's a 0.3mm swing, among
shots taken with the same camera.

How much can the vertical be off before it causes problems
projecting?

I had always thought the RBT pin bars adjustment feature was
only needed for single camera stereo shots (cha-cha or slide
bar), or stereo cameras with a slight lens vertical alignment
problem. Learn something new everyday!

Oh you just couldn't resist, could you? ;)
