colour temperature

someone asked whether we should all use our Red Button viewers in the
dark to avoid colour temperature shift (I'm in digest mode, and won't
bother to waste bandwidth quoting..) For what it's worth, I've seen a
video post production house which not only had very expensive colour
corrected lighting, but also had all the walls painted neutral gray, and
any decorations done in bright primaries. Not a pastel tone in the
place, so that people's eyes wouldn't shift. The television stations I've
worked at simply cover the walls with whatever's on sale, and light it
with cool whites.
