Fisher Scientific Stereo Viewer and Slides

Yesterday, at an "antique-collectable" show I saw a stereo viewer and a
batch of 2 1/2" x 5" glass stereo slides unlike any I had seen before.
The viewer consisted of a wooden box with an open bottom and a slightly
smaller wooden box with an open top which was inserted into the larger
box. The viewing lenses were in the upper box. The lower box had a
frosted glass and a slot where the glass slides were inserted just above
the frosted glass bottom. There was a little peg-like handle on the
lower box so that it could be moved in and out of the nested larger box
for focusing.
Around the eyepieces was inscribed "Fisher Scientific Materials Co" and
"Pittsburgh Pennsylvania" (I wrote down PA, but I believe it was spelled
out or perhaps Penn). Each slide had the same name and address between
the two images. What remained of the cardboard box for the slides
showed the name "FISHERVIEW" The slides were one piece of glass and I
believe the image was on the back of the glass. I tried viewing at
various angles but could not be sure and didn't dare scrape with my
pocket knife to scientifically determine :-).
The slides were all WW II scenes which sort of dates the viewer. One of
the lenses was missing hence not usable. I was able to freeview a
couple of slides and found several that had reasonably good 3d effect.
I have known of Fisher Scientific making Labratory Supplies for at least
40 years but do not remember "Materials" in the name and certainly never
knew they were involved in stereo devices if this is the same company.
Does anyone on Photo-3D have this viewer and slides or have knowledge of
its history? The dealer was asking $200 hence I had no desire to own
it. (Might have been interested at $20, but both viewer and slides were
in rather poor condition)
>From the Web Yellow Pages, found no Fisher Scientific Materials but did
find Fisher Scientific locations at Indiana, PA, and Malvern, PA and
also at Cincinnatti, OH. If anyone is interested, I have the street
addresses and phone numbers of those locations.
Best Regards....Jim Motley
