Another great stereo night in Cleveland...

Brief report on our November meeting, which took place tonight.

In the first part of the meeting we saw an excellent presentation by
Don Peck on "Nature Stereo Photography". Mr. Peck has been taking
stereo pictures for 40 years now. His stereo slides were absolutely
wonderful. All pictures were shot with a Realist and Kodachrome 64
from his trips around the USA. It is amazing what a simple stereo
camera can do in capable hands...

Second part of the meeting was a "lecture" by DrT on "Hyperstereos".
We talked about the problem (lack of depth in far-away objects) and
how to implement the solution (Hyperstereo) using either a single
camera (any camera, even a stereo camera, could be used for this
purpose) in successive exposures or two cameras connected to fire
simultaneously. We discussed the general rules (1/30, parallel axes,
vertical alignment) and the problems resulting from not applying these
rules (excessive deviation, keystoning, vertical misalignment/
rotation). We showed examples of hyperstereos taken using various
techniques. I hope some of our members were encouraged to try
hyperstereos since everybody has the required tools (a single camera).

In our newsletter next month (to be circulated in 3 weeks) we are
planning 3 articles: An interview with Don Peck (this will be fairly
long since Mr. Peck has such a rich history in stereoscopic
activities) an article on Hyperstereos (this will include sources for
camera bars, dual camera cable releases, references on procedures for
testing camera pairs for synchronization, and other details not
presented in our meeting) and an article on "Stereo in the Web",
written by club members.

Please feel free to contact me for information about: 1) joining our
club, 2) subscribing to our newsletter, 3) contributing an article for
our newsletter.

Regards -- George Themelis, OhiO Stereo Photographic Society
