Mounting jig

Here is a question I am a little embarrassed to ask this far along in
the game, but here goes. . .  What is a mounting jig?  I have been
mounting my slides using only a light table, film cutter, and sometimes
using guages from Reel 3D, and cardboard mounts that are blue on the
inside.  I check how each pair of  slides look in my viewer after I
position them.  Sometimes I make adjustments but only by how it looks to
me.  I am not measuring anything nor do I have a clue how to go about
that.  I am a little lost when some of you have talked about adjusting
the slides.  Are you doing this with a mounting jig?
