A mount with unconventional opening spacing can be usually used in a viewer
mixed with other slides without any problem.  In projection mixing it with
other slides can be a problem because the horizontal adjustment of the
projector should be changed when these mounts are projected (no problem of
course if the entire show is done in the same type of mounts.)  

I cannot think of any special effect use of this mount.  In Japan Fuji used
to (maybe they still do) return slides with mounts with smaller spacing of 
the openings.  These mounts might be usuful for kids or adults with narrow 
eyespacing but same caution applies for projection.
