P3D Putting 2 35mm cameras bottom-to-bottom

I'm thinking of trying to experiment with a twin camera rig. What I'd
like to do is put two point-and-shoot cameras base-to-base to get a
reasonably "normal" separation. Does anyone know of a gizmo for
mounting the cameras base-to-base? I'm picturing something like a
screw shaft with a knurled wheel in the middle, but I don't know if
such a thing exists, or where to get one.
Also, any suggestions on synchronizing these, short of opening the
camera shells and trying to solder the shutter circuits together? Are
there any mechanical ways to link two cameras that don't have
cable-release threads?
Thanks,
-pd
P.S. - Probably my camera of choice would be the Yashica Super T4, but
I might try to experiment with something cheaper first.
