The specified life for the medium is 10 years. And they were far from
"perfect" the day they were manufactured.

Yes we have discussed it and I won't get back into it but I respectfully
disagree with most of your implicit and explicit assumptions regarding
the "copying," "error correcting," and display or reproduction of
non-digitally originated materials.
Suffice it to say that there is disagreement regarding the reproduction
and long-term storage of non-digital photographic (or sonic) images on
digital media.
