When discussing fading of slides it's important to keep in mind that
what appears to be fading might actually be weak colors due to
overexposure.  Relatively slight differences in exposure can make a big
difference in the vividness and saturation of the colors in the slide.
If slides were overexposed in the camera, decades later they will look
just as bad.  Color emulsions generally don't fade uniformly, so that
faded slides usually show a sigificant color shift besides fading, and
this can help determine whether a slide that isn't familiar has faded
or wasn't that great to begin with.
