I know, old topic... I finally got around to digging out my Realist
bubble level to get more info.

The one-page "instruction sheet" that was with mine reads as follows:

                        INSTRUCTIONS

      (picture) For correct use make

                                sure your LEVEL-UP is

                                inserted in this position

                                in camera.
      (Pat. pending)

To correctly position LEVEL-UP, insert with the bubble at
bottom. Squeeze ring gently and position slot in ring so that
it is on an exact line with the shutter speed indicator arrow
on the camera. When this is done, LEVEL_UP is set and may
remain in the camera. LEVEL-UP is preleveled and can be
installed in a matter of seconds if these very simple directions
  are followed.

$20 for a gadget that originally sold for $2.95? That's a pretty good
appreciation! (Of course I haven't corrected for 1950's $ buying power :-))

I never use it, either. It does not seem to attach very positively,
and I would be concerned about it popping out and getting lost. However,
the collector in me does not want to part with it.
