P3D Re: Realist filter Experiments

I have constructed a very primative bracket that holds both round
filters and resin plate filters in front of the stereo lenses of my
Realist. I would like to post my results and share ideas from others who
may have tried this before. TWIN STAR FILTER....the disparity of the
stars "flair"
created differently from each filter causes lights and reflections to
flicker...adding a very live quality to an already realistic image.
POLARIZER...2 large polarizers, large enough so that portions of each
filter can be seen through the viewfinder, allow me to adjust and
preview the effect of each filter before each lense.....thus matching
polarization. I believe some of the polarized images may be to contrasty
for projection however. COLOR and CORRECTIVE filters.....simply hold a
filter up before the subject, if you like what you see, mount the filter
and shoot. Sometimes I hold the filter in front of the light meter to
establish proper exposure beforehand. GRADUATED FILTER.....if you can
find a single filter wide enough to span both lenses, the filter also
passes in front of the viewfinder allowing perfect filter placement and
adjustment. Add fog effects, different color skylines etc. Success with
this is a little more difficult, must carefully set up the shot, filter,
exposure, etc. SOFT VIGNETTING.....1A filters with vasaline around the
perimeter for a softing effect....alittle problematic....cannot place
both filters accurately enough to create consistent results.
I may shelf this one for now. Unless I can design a bracket that allows
precision adjustments, some of my other ideas won't work at this time. I
would like to share filter/special effect ideas using a Realist and
would welcome new ideas. I may enter some of these shots in the
Cleveland competition and see what happens. MARK DOTTLE
