P3D Re: Stereo Camera VS Twin SLR

I have been an active 2-Der for years, 35mm SLRs, zoom lenses, filters,
motor drives, bounce flashes.....the works. When introduced to stereo,
my first thought was to twin SLR's. After working with a Realist for a
few weeks, I decided to challenge myself by "pushing the envelope" with
the Realist......using filters, taking my time to understand what makes
a good 3-D image happen. I thought sync twin SLR's would be "too
easy"......I could predict an advantage immediately.....but I chose to
challenge myself by sticking with the Realist. First, it has helped to
"reschool" my compositional and technical skills. Second, I can
concentrate on the image first as opposed to "coordinating hardware" as
a priority. As Dr, T expresses, the Realist can be a simple camera, an
artistic tool, or both.....it is up to each individual effort to obtain
desired results.
Sure, stereo cameras have limitations.....but I have images from a
Realist that can rival some SLR shots......and until I become famous for
my work with a Realist....I cannot say I have outgrown the camera! And
this winter when I photograph holiday lighting and snowstorms, I'll be
thankful for no dead batteries.......and heck, I'll use the thing to
chip the ice off of my windshield. :-) MARK DOTTLE
