P3D Re: Then and Now

Someone asked a question concerning reproducing the angle of view of an
antique stereo card.

There is no way of knowing exactly what the film size to lens ratio for the
stereocard was, but that is not necessary in order to exactly reproduce the
scene. Just follow these simple directions:

1. Without looking through the viewfinder of the camera, approach the scene
and move around until the visible landmarks in the scene have the same size
relative to each other that they have in the original.
2. Set up the camera on this spot and look through the viewfinder.
3. Note whether your view includes more or less of the scene than the
original card.
4. If your view includes less than the original, then your lens in not wide
angle enough and you will have to use another.
5. If your view includes the same area you're in luck.
6. If your view includes more than the original, make the exposure and when
you have the prints made (of course you're having prints made or preferably
making them yourself) simply enlarge them so that when you trim them to size
they will be identical to the original.
