P3D RE: PHOTO-3D digest 2424
Hi friends,
REFERENCE LENTICULAR PRINTING - one off variety with an enlarger.
This is not an easy proposition. Yes, the actual enlarger itself is a 'bog-standard' type.....any type will do....but it is the actual printing base that makes all the difference And it is this printing base/table/platten (call it what you like) that is the expensive part. We have one that cost GBP 4,500-00.
Firstly it is motorised with controls that move the platten the exact degree in one direction to correspond with the numbers that you have dialed in. These, in turn, are mathematically calculated by a combination of number of lenses on the stereo camera and the type of lenticular screen that you intend using. The control is exremely fine and I doubt whether it could be done without the aid of the special moving platten (or base board). The printing is done through a lenticular mesh sheet which matches up with the material that is later to be bonded to the face of the photo.
The actual processing of the enlargement is quite standard once this work has been done, and the affixing of the actual leticulated material is, indeed, a hand done trial and error job. The special glue that is used is a problem, but that's another story.
Any questions?
