Actually Michael Kersenbrock "aced it" (in his own words) FIRST
with the correct answer off-list to me. Honorable mention also
goes to second place winner, Jay Schumacher with his witty answer,
which he gave me permission to post below.

 It would appear that the King (of Diamonds) had the salesman
 beheaddded because, having only one eye, he lacked binocular
 vision and unfortunately could not appreciate the wonderful
 display of "horizontal displacement" that the salesman's
 magical viewing device afforded. It seems, however, if the
 device were truly "magical" it would not have required two
 eyes to appreciate.

 I submit therefore that the salesman was peddling nothing
 more than pulfrich effect glasses under the name of "________".
 Was this salesman, by any chance, named ____? ;-)

Some stuff deleted (for P3D) in the above humorous message that
gave me alot of chuckles. Thanks for the funny answer Jay!
