Vincent G. Macek and Linda Nygren asked about photographing X-mas lights.

I think the real purpose of these questions was, "how to catch Santa in
the act!". To do that, you need complete darkness and an infra-red 
camera and an infra-red lamp. Forget all that advice about meters,
sun, etc. It will scare ole Saint Nick and you won't get that chance
of a life-time shot. Anyways, last year I got that chance. So, now back
