P3D Mark Calendars for NYSS #2

Attention NY area stereo folk! Mark your calendars, sterilize your
polarized glasses, and open both eyes... we are pleased to announce the next
meeting of the New York Stereoscopic Society.
Saturday, January 10th, 1998 at 7:00pm in the newly renovated and
silver-screened Linder Theatre at the American Museum of Natural History.
We are truly delighted to have 2 very special out-of-town guests presenting
their own stereo programs using the superzesty Brackett Dissolve Projector.
>From Ann Arbor, Michigan, courtesy of the Circumnavigators club (that is,
the society for folks who have been 'round the world), Leslie Fisher
presents his "Glimpse of Tibet," 100+ arresting images accompanied by
commentary and traditional Tibetan music tracing his journey across this
embattled land so much in the news these days.
"Our visit to Tibet was a true adventure. We experienced the Potala Palace in
Lhasa, the magnificent structure which is the former home of the Dalai Lama;
visited remote monasteries with vermillion halls created above the clouds in
the Himalayas; entered the cave of the ancient mystic Millerapa; we rode over
600 miles of unpaved highway from Lhasa to Katmandu passing through the
heart of the Himalayas; witnessed rural farming in villages that still use
techniques of farming from the middle ages; and had impressed upon us the
plight of the Tibetans and the threat to their culture. In short we had a
fleeting glimpse of a unique people located in a distant and magical land."
-Les Fisher
As if that weren't enough, Photo-3D celebrity Jon Golden swoops in from
Boston... Inspired by legendary stereo card photographers of the 19th
century and the new possibilities offered by AGFA Scala black and white
film, Jon presents "Black & White - Then & Now," recently seen at NSA
Bellvue. In many cases, the viewer will be challenged to tell whether they
are looking at an image from the 1890's, the 1950's, or the present. Each
image is purposefully sequenced to interact with the next, using the Brackett
projector to full advantage. We'll also have a chance to see his RBT (and
other) products.
The Linder Theater should be a comfortable setting for informal
show-and-tell during intermission, similar to our first meeting.
We'll give another notice as the date approaches... See y'all there.
Thanks
Greg & Eric
