P3D Slide Film for Holiday

Vince asked about recommended films to use for holiday lighting shots. I
am not an authority on the many films available but here is what I
think. For INDOOR lighting ( trees fireplaces etc.) I like Fuji Sensia
or Velvia 100 ISO. For a "surreal" with good color saturation and vivid
"greens" and "golds" try Velvia. For the same result but toned down a
bit....try Sensia. Forget the faster Fuji films as they look grainy. For
accuracy and less saturation, Try Kodachrome 64. OUTDOOR lighting ( low
light exposure) I would recommend Sensia.....good color saturation and
well balanced. For accuracy again Kodachrome. Velvia will look great but
I feel this film is too expensive to use as a low light film, although
the "green and gold" colors look especially surreal to me. Ektachrome
has a "cool, cold " look which can be great for winter shots but not my
favorite.
Consider these examples shooting the same scene with different film ,as
an analogy of comparison:
VELVIA- high gloss post card or magazine cover look
SENSIA- page from a magazine
KODACHROME- matte finish placemat or newspaper photo that has been
laminated
EKTACHROME- viewing a kodachrome image through an airplane window or car
windshield
I'm sorry...forgive this gross oversimplification or a laymans
explanation.....and "you're welcome"
to those who understand the analogy and/or don't want to sift through a
technical journal for film recommendations :-) MARK DOTTLE
