P3D Slides to Prints & vice versa

George Themelis and Ron Fredrickson wrote about slide makers who convert
slides to prints to enter stereo card exhibitions. I believe this issue
was discussed at the last PSA Stereo Division annual meeting in Chicago
and it was decided that it was alright to do this. If there are enough
queries from interested folks then this may be changed. I don't
necessarily agree with it and I think it will be a big topic of
discussion at the next annual meeting of the PSA Stereo Division As for
me, I use it in the reverse fashion by converting my BW stereo cards into
slides and entering them in the slide exhibitions. No I havn't won any
prizes, but I have had several acceptances,

There were several entries in the SSA 2d Intl Exhibition that were slides
converted to prints. Some of them didn't look to good, I will admit.
But the first paragraph of the rules for this exhibition read
-----Consideration will also be given to accuracy of stereo mounting and
appearance of card mount --- So the judges could decide for themselves
on the quality of the stereo cards.

The 2d Delaware Exhibition is addressing this issue by awarding a medal
for the Best New Image ( one that has never been accepted before in any
format)

George also asked "How do you convince exhibitions to have stereo card
sections?" In my limited experience in PSA ( only 4 years) it has been
multiple letters from interested stereo card makers to the exhibition
chairs asking to have cards included, bringing up the fact that PSA
recognizes stereo cards and that there are many stereo card makers world
wide who would like to participate in such exhibitions. PSA Stars and
acceptances are fine and I guess that many who participate in exhibitions
do just for those "Honors" Personally, I enjoy sharing the winners and
acceptances in the 2d SSA Intl Stereo Card Exhibition with non-stereo
folks almost as much as anything else about stereography.

The last exhbition of the 2d SSA Intl was at a reception held by the
Columbus Artists' Guild, here in Columbus. I had 80 stereo cards in four
frames, with a lorgnette viewer hanging on each frame. Everyone seemed
to enjoy looking at the cards. To increase audience interest and
participation we held another competition using 3 of the Guild members as
judges. I asked them to disregard the winning labels and pick a 1st , 2d
& 3rd place. They went about their task quite diligently and picked
their winners. Amazingly none of their winners won a prize in the
original judging, all three came from the Honorable Mentions. This
little exhibition "sidebar" was so much fun that we will make it an
annual event and give out Guild Ribbons next year.

George also mentioned that there are exhibitions which don't accept View
Magic and 2 x2 slides. I recall a couple of slide exhibitions that had a
2 x 2 category, but stopped doing that due to lack of entries. The only
View Magic exhibitions I know of are the Stereoscopic Society in the UK
and the quarterly competitions of the Attlanta Stereographic Association,
which accepts all kinds of prints, stereo cards, View Magic, lenticulars
and possibly holograms (although I have not seen one entered yet.) If
someone is interested in having a format of their choice included in a
exhibition i would suggest a letter to the exhibition chairman, stating
your case. If you are really interested in a particular format
---ORGANIZE AN EXHIBITION --- Sure it involves a bit of work, but that
comes with the territory
