I'll be brief. :-)

Probably less than those ruined after the meter is used.

About zero coming from a beginner's first rolls with or without 
a meter.

The "sunny day rule" does not require any math.  Knowing the 
aperture progression is always useful when using a totally
manual camera like a Realist or a Revere.  Most problably, 
the good use of a light meter requires more knowledge, skills
and photographic intelligence than memorizing of a few rules of 
thumb.
