P3D IMAX silver screen

IMAX runs a video in the lobby (at least in NYC) that supplies statistical
data on the system. One of the numbers was "how many gallons of aluminized
paint were used to paint the screen." I'd assume aluminized paint is used
both for greater brightness and to maintain polarization when the
"back-up" system is used.

Re: polarization: we're talking about two systems that use polarization in
different ways. LCD is an *active* system that sequentially blocks
alternate images. The traditional "polarized" system is a *passive*,
non-synchronized system that screens and differentiates images projected
simultaneously (OR sequentially, for that matter). The questions are, 1)
has IMAX substituted an LCD in the headsets for the old Polaroid-type
plastic material to obtain the same effect; and, 2)Are the films always
projected through polarizers, or are polarizers available in case the
sequential synchronization system fails.

In IMAX theaters where only polarized projection is used, conventional
plastic polarizing glasses are used.
