Remove any protective covering, and wait a few months - that'll take
care of it.
Back in "industrial arts" class in 7th grade, we used a substance called
"liver of sulfur" on sheets of copper. The formulation we used immediately
put a thick, dark coating on the metal. I expect it would have some
effect on brass.
