Re: Mounting in glass
I was asked to clarify what do I mean by "mounting in glass":

To mount in glass you start with a thin mount. This can be either
paper or aluminum, with aluminum being more common. Examples of
aluminum mounts: Realist, Sigma, EMDE, Albion (only the Albion
mounts are currently in production). You then "sandwich" the
mount in two pieces of glass and tape them together or use an
aluminum binder to hold them. Reel 3-D sells the glass and
Dennis Sherwood sells both glass and EMDE aluminum binders.
A few years ago (before RBT showed up) this kind of mounting was
recommended for projection because it holds the slide flat and
rigid. The big plus for me is that it protects it from handling,
dust etc. Even this glass-mounting is not maintenance free as
the glass needs cleaning (inside) every few years or so. Plus
there is always a risk of breaking the glass, etc.
