P3D Pulfrich

>From Michael Kaplan:
My theory is that the Pulfrich effect has more to do with the brain
processing information than the number of eyes used to receive that
information. Anyone have info on Pulfrich's scientific papers?
>From Ron Fredrickson in reply:
I have one paper in my files, and I can't remember where I obtained it. It's
entitled "The Phenomenon of Pulfrich-Effect as a Media Adventure" by P.
Bongard and Q. Yazdani. It was presented as a paper at the First
International Symposium on 3D Images in Stolberg, Germany, in 1991. There is
a reference to one paper by Pulfrich as follows: "1922. Die Stereoskopie in
Dienste der isochromen and heterochromen Photometrie" from the journal Die
Naturwissenschaften 554-573. This sounds like a poor reference to find
because it gives the year only and not the volume of the journal. Also, it
may not be relevant to your question, but it may contain other references of
use to you. Two other references from the paper I have which may help are
<Lit, A. 1949. The magnitude of the Pulfrich Stereophenomenon as a function
of binocular differences of intensity at various levels of illumination.
Am.Jour. of Psychology. 159-181.> and <Schnapf, J.L., und Baylor, D.A. 1987.
Die Reaktionen of Photorezeptoren auf Licht. Spektrum der Wissenschaft.
116-150>.
I hope this information may be of some help.
Ron
