P3D stereo ROVs in "Titanic" the movie.

I went to see the James Cameron movie "Titanic" last night - WOW, what an
epic!!! and there is a 3D link!
In the beginning sequences of the movie they explore the Titanic wreck
using the two Russian MIR submersibles (The same two submersibles that
were used to film the IMAX movie Titanica and the National Geographic
3D video footage). During the dive two small ROVs (Remotely Operated
Vehicles) are launched from the two MIRs (one from each MIR) to explore
inside the wreck of the Titanic.
It looks like 2 video cameras are mounted as a stereo-pair on the front of
each of these ROVs. Inside each of the MIRs, the ROV operators are
wearing a Head Mounted Display (HMD) to view the ROVs video (a PT-01
HMD if I saw correctly). Also, one of the CRTs in the MIR cabin had
the subtitle LEFT EYE on the bottom right if the video. Unfortunately
the stereo-pair were about 30cm apart - way too far apart for effective
stereovideo at the close range that they were operating at.
Unfortunately this was probably just a bit of movie theatrics but it
would be interesting to know more... Any of the photo-3d news hounds
know more?
