This is what I've noticed after using the these Surplus Shack lens pairs
in a viewer:
1) Pincushion is noticeable
2) Image is sharp all the way to the corners of a full frame 35 slide.
On a comparative basis I believe that if you can't have both "sharp
images" and "no pincushion" in a lens combination, you are better off
with the sharp image rather than no pincushion.
This is true only if you are trying to make do with an affordable
optical system. If you can afford the best then you expect more.
I have always been frustrated with the fuzzy optics of the affordable
full frame viewers, especially wearing eyeglasses (which I have to do
more and more). When viewing my slides through this affordable optic
system (AOS) I find that I really notice the image being sharp, and I am
not distracted by the pincushion. It is just so nice to see a
completely sharp image with eyeglasses.
