I AM SORRY TO INFORM THE STEREOSCOPIC COMMUNITY THAT FRANK MAYER HAS PASSED
AWAY ON JANUARY 6, 1998. FRANK WAS 88 AND IN ROBUST CONDITION UNTIL THE
END. HE WAS A MEMBER OF THE STEREOSCOPIC SOCIETY OF AMERICA (SSA) SINCE
1989 AND PARTICIPATED IN THE BETA CIRCUIT FOLIO. JUDGING FROM THE DATES ON
HIS BEAUTIFUL SLIDES, HE STARTED TO PHOTOGRAPH IN STEREO BEFORE SOME OF OUR
READERS WERE BORN, AND HE KEPT GOING STRONG ALL THE WAY.

HIS FRIENDS, THE STEREOSCOPIC COMMUNITY, AND ALL SSA MEMBERS WILL MISS HIM
DEEPLY.

Following is a brief note from fellow SSA member Dick Twichell about Frank:


"I was informed of Frank's death by his wife, Rita - condolences could be
sent to her at their Williamsville address.  He is also survived by a
daughter and several children and grandchildren.  He died on Jan. 6 in
hospital in Buffalo, NY after a brief illness at the age of 88.

Frank was active in Labor Organizing as a young man, in the days when an
Organizer sometimes had to change his name and disappear for awhile,
which Frank experienced.  He was a pattern-maker for General Motors by
trade, retiring in the early 70s.  He was an avid golfer and played
nearly every day, weather permitting.  For years he and Rita vacationed
in Spain, wintering there after retirement, where he took stereo slides
of great beauty and interest, which were greatly appreciated by his
fellow Beta circuit members for their depictions of the rural landscapes
he enjoyed. 
 
Frank also was a cobblestone building enthusiast, having visited and
photographed every known example of those unique constructions in
Western New York, which were built by newly unemployed masons from
Europe after the completion of the Erie canal."
