Whoa, round the houses or what?  Why not put a freebie ftp server on
either the Mac or the PC, and transfer direct?

OK, this list isn't the best place to go into a lot of detail on this, but
if you (or anyone on the list) could use advice I'd be happy to help.
I've tried most of the methods to make a PC talk to a Mac I think.

As far as doing the scan yourself is concerned, I think I'd prefer to have
control over the process anyway.
