P3D Waldsmith on how NSA got started
The following is an abstract from John Waldsmith's biographical
note, to appear in Stereogram 2.6. Reprinted here with permission
by the editor :-)
"In 1973, I made contact with Richard Russack, a major stereo view
collector in Massachusetts. He had several talks with me by telephone
and in the summer of 1973 it was decided to form a stereo view
collectors club.
I volunteered to do the newsletter. It became a major task and a
labor of love. I suggested the "American Stereoscopic Society".
I was informed there already was the Stereoscopic Society, American
Branch. I then suggested the American Stereoscopic Association. It
eventually was decided to call it the National Stereoscopic
Association.
The newsletter "Stereo World" eventually grew to a magazine and
today we have a worldwide membership of over 3800....
I resigned as NSA Vice-President in 1981 and gave up the editing of
Stereo World to John Dennis."
Also, John writes about his famous book:
"In 1991, I had my book published. Stereo Views, An Illustrated
History and Price Guide is now in its fourth printing with over
14000 copies sold todate. "
14000 copies!!! Wow!
And he concludes:
"Currently our house is nearing the end of a major remodeling which
includes a new office/computer room. Once done, we will be on the NET."
Hurrah!!!!
