The website is not reachable at the moment so I can't confirm it, but it
sounds to me like you are describing the Teleview system, which was used in
several 3D movies in the 1920s, notably the feature film M.A.R.S. It was a
viewer with an enclosed shutter blade very similar to the one found in a
camera, and it alternately blocked the right eye and left eye views of the
screen in synch with the left and right frames of the movie.
