P3D Re: stereo clubs
Hi all,
As the ad-hoc VP of a "young stereo club," the recent thread about member
involvement vs. prime movers piqued my interest. I have come to the
conclusion that no-one can really help us! What I mean is that every club
is different. A Manhattan club is obviously not going to be much like the
Rabbit Hash club. For one thing we had over 100 folks at our last meeting
and we haven't done any advertising yet! I've been involved with other
(non-3D) groups that come together and fall apart and that's just the way
it is. People will either be enthusiastic about coming our enthusiastic
about helping make it happen or, ideally, both. When the
"make-it-happeners" disappear, so does the endeavor.
At our second meeting I was approached by someone who said "I paid my dues,
now what do I get for it? When do I get my newsletter?" He was
half-joking, but only half. He really wanted something for nothing. I
said "Well, when you volunteer to make one!" For now, Greg and David and I
are having a good time being the benevolent dictators of the NYSS, but our
goal is to increase member involvement to the point where the meetings
become an inevitablity. Jon Golden gave some tips based on his experience
with New England, which seems like NYSS's closest twin. A couple of folks
(including some P3D members) have stepped up to the plate , and we have
some things brewing for our members to contribute to the next meeting.
Stay tuned.
