P3D Stereo tintypes

Those of you who are readers of Stereo World
(and if you aren't you should be), will be aware
of the ongoing debate about the existence of
stereo tintypes (ferrotypes).
Some members have doubted that true antique
stereo tintypes exist , others have submitted
what they claim to be genuine examples.
I've just returned from the annual Midlands
Camera Fair in Derby , and now I'm in no doubt
that such things exist. One of the dealers had for
sale what is in my view an undoubted example.
About the size of a classic stereocard, a single flat
piece of metal with two excellent images. The
scene shows a woman in 19th Century dress
in the foreground , and a wooden house in the
background. It looks like an American view. I was
allowed to put it in a scope , and it had good stereo
effect.
Any faint hope on my part of a bargain was dispelled
when the friendly dealer explained " Its a stereo
tintype.. very rare...500 pounds " ($750).
Even so I came away pleased to be one of a small
number of people to have seen such a rare item.
