The only thing CONSTANT about STEREO PROCESSING and
MOUNTING is CONSTANT CHANGE:
RE: Recent questions and discussion in PHOTO-3DD about
stereo mounting for Stereo Realist format Kodachrome and E-6 film:
I have a letter, dated January 1998, from Michaele Spagnola,
Customer Relations Specialist, Qualex, Inc., Fair Lawn, NJ 07410,
Telephone 1-800-345-6973 Ext. 428, which states in part:
"...due to a recent organizational change, the equipment used in
providing the stereo-mounting service in our Dallas lab has been
dismanteled and shipped to this location (Fair Lawn, NJ), where
all mailer orders are now being handled. The machinery is now
being installed and will shortly be operational....."
"Include (inside each PK-36 mailer for 36 exposure film and also in
each PK-20 or PK-24 mailer for each 24 exposure roll) a check for
$4.20 made out to 'KODAK PREMIUM PROCESSING' as the
additional payment for stereo-mounting....." (NOTE: The $4.10 in
my last E-Mail on this subject was a typo, an error. $4.20 is the
correct amount.)
"Many thanks for your patience and please direct any questions or
correspondence to my personal attention. Michaele Spagnola"
Although not mentioned in the letter, it is essential that you print
clearly inside the "SPECIAL INSTRUCTIONS" box on the mailer:
STEREO PROCESSING AND MOUNTING. Please note that this
service is only for film exposed in STEREO-REALIST format
cameras. You may purchase PK-36 mailers for as low as $4.29 each
from NY mail order firms. If you send your film in through any camera
store, you must use the term "STEREO PROCESSING AND MOUNTING",
NOT "3-D Mounting", and explain to the clerk that the order must be sent
to P. O. Box 7000, Fair Lawn, NJ 07410-7000.
You will receive cardboard stereo slides suitable for handviewing, but
not for projection. You must remount all slides you want to project to
create the stereo window, set the separation of homologeous infinity
points, and vertically align all homologeous points. I recommend
either RBT Realist (5 perf) mounts purchased from Jon Golden
(E-Mail: 3dman@xxxxxxxxxxx) or 2 x 2 GEPE 6301 (24 x 24mm)
combined with GEPE 6801 (21 x 28mm) vertically oriented to create
a 21 x 24mm opening -- the closest match to standard Realist-format --
purchased from Reel 3-D Enterprises, Inc., P.O.Box 2368, Culver City,
CA 90231, Phone 1-310-837-2368, FAX 1-310- 558-1653. Ask for a
free catalog.
For other than Realist format images, such as split-frame, European
Format, half-frame, etc., I recommend sending to any lab that will
process Kodachrome or E-6 with clear "DO NOT MOUNT" instructions
both on the mailer and on a slip of paper taped to the film cassette,
in which case you must mount them yourself.
Hope this helps, Bill DUGGAN, APSA
