Yes, I've noticed that any light source (other than the monitor) in front
of the goggles can interfere with the IR reception. Even bright sunlight
has caused loss of synchronization. I believe a normal incandescent light
bulb is putting out an infared signal at 60Hz. The easiest solution is to
move all lamps off the desk and place them behind you. Sometimes I tape a
paper shield to the right side of the goggles (that's where the IR receiver
is located). I have not tried blocking the transmitter, can't see how that
can help, unless as you are suggesting, the IR signal is bouncing off
something in the room, still it shouldn't interfere as it would not be
out of synch.
