P3D nikons

Hello to the camera nuts and stereo hacks on P3D:
Can anyone of you point me to the most "cost effective" 35mm Nikon SLR that
allows electronic synchronization of the shutters? This is for the purpose
of twinning, of course. Shutter sync must be good enough for reliable
stereo image capture using strobes - the strobes being triggered off of one
body.
I appreciate suggestions for other manufacturer's models, but I esteem
Nikon's reputation for robust construction and excellent technical support
and serviceability.
Can any SLR be set to trigger the strobe in the "middle" of the exposure?
What I mean is: not to trigger just as the opening curtain has finished
opening, or just as the closing curtain starts to close. Of course, this
question applies only to exposures significantly longer than flash synch
speed. (Which for some Nikons is 1/2000 sec. or less, I gather).
In other words, assume the synch speed is 1/2000. I think that means that
if the shutter is set to 1/125, the curtain would remain full open for
(1/125 - 2/2000) = 7/1000. So I want the strobe to be triggered somewhere
around 3/1000 sec. after the leading curtain has opened fully. (Gee,
that's about 1/500 after the exposure was started). This is only to insure
that both cameras, running at 1/125, capture the full image.
If you understand the above question, and can offer any advice, I would be
very grateful.
What experience do people have with flash synch on the RBT models? John
(Golden), are the RBT shutters mechanically linked to a single mechanism,
or are they two mechanisms that are synchronised?
I would have posted this to tech-3d, but given recent posts here and there,
I'm still not sure that T3D serves a unique purpose for questions like
this.
Respectfully submitted,
