That is similar to my experience trying Kodak print film in combination
with Dale's processing and conversion to "slide film" (which was fairly
low in cost when done whole uncut roll at a time).

Result was way too grainy for my taste, so I don't intend to do it 
again.   At least not that way.  Kind of a bummer... it would
have been a good way to make a zillion copies of a whole roll
and do it pretty cheap.  :-(

On the bright side, the tenth copy would be about as good as
the original "slide" (which was a copy too).  But on the
not so bright side, the tenth copy is as bad as the
original......
