There is a fairly substantial (recently modified) welcome message
sent out when you join. 


However, there basically are no FAQs for the mailing list (anybody want
to voluenteer?). The best thing to do is to take a look as some of the
web sites run by list members (and maybe proceed around the 3d ring).

I forget who is the "base" of the ring, but one entry point is:
