P3D Revere retaining rings

Help! I've just purchased a Revere camera, and one of the retaining rings is
stuck. Brute force simply won't work without damaging the ring. Can anyone
suggest another method for removing, like some kind of oil or something that
loosens stuck metal parts? Needless to say, I'd rather leave the ring in place
and not damage the camera if that's my only option.
