Can we please define "snapshooting" here? I would say "Realist" is better
for "casual photography", i.e. documenting one's life, family, vacation,
etc. Not artistic photography, not PSA salon-type quality (not that this
cannot be achieved with a Realist), but precious memories, the reason that
many people got into 3d in the first place and the reason many people
(myself included) are still here. (Note: by "Realist" I mean the system
based on stereo cameras, including Belplasca and FED, and slides mounted in
the standard American stereo format)

...while being severely limited on subject matter... At least I would be
limited, and so would our friend X... and your typical "snapshooter", i.e.
the person who is more interested in documenting his family, eveay life,
vacations, etc., instead of tabletops, flower macros, computer-generated
images, etc.

Realist has succeeded, no matter what you guys say... Even Mike Watters
(whose posting I have lost or I have a reply for him too) uses the Realist
system! (note: Not camera but system... these FED or twin Olympus users
are mounting their slides in "Relist" mounts.... OK, American Stereo
whatever, and use "Realist" viewers and "Realist" projectors - Even RBT,
one of the manufacturers of full-frame stereo cameras is producing the most
extensive line of Realist-format mounts, viewers and projectors - Why
doesn't RBT make any accessories for the 2x2x2 format?)
AND... Boris is using the same system too!!! He admitted having mounted
some of his slides in EMDE mounts and viewing them in a "Realist" viewer
and sending them to be judged with "Realist" hardware. HE has seen the
light too. If the Realist system had not succeeded then why would such a
strong advocate of the 2x2 system feel pressured to mount any slides in
Realist format? I have not been pressured to keep any of my full frame
slides in separate mounts and I do not because I want to see them in their
full glory in my REALIST RED BUTTON VIEWER!!!
LONG LIVE THE REALIST SYSTEM !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Regards,
George Themelis
PS. I am sending Boris my own personal full frame (8p) halogenized Realist
red button viewer (the only viewer I have) with a collection of slides
(mostly from a Realist, but also SLR shots... a wide variety, mounted in
everything from 4p to 8p standard stereo mounts) and I invite him to post
his honest impressions here in photo-3d.
